POST TREATMENT FOR TOENAIL FUNGUS

Follow-up care is important for the success of your toenail fungus treatment.  Please keep these instructions for future reference.

1. Normal activity can resume immediately.

2. Disinfect the insides of your shoes with an antifungal spray such as Lotrimin or Lamisil at the end of each day.  There is an ultraviolet shoe sterilizer (SteriShoe) available on-line for those interested.  Try to wear different shoes daily.

3. Buy new nail clippers and files since your current pair may be infected.  Metal nail care instruments may also be cleaned with diluted bleach or boiling water.

4. Keep your toenails cleaned and trimmed as the fungus grows out.
( Keep those nail clippers clean!)

5. All bathrugs that you step on daily should be washed in hot water with bleach.

6. Wear flip-flops in public places, especially hotel rooms and showers, athletic club locker rooms and showers and indoor swimming pools.

7. We recommend the use of an antifungal cream on a daily basis for 1 month.  This can be applied to the bottom of your feet, sides of your feet, between your toes and around the nails.  This will help prevent further
re-infection. (Lotrimin Cream, Clotrimazole 1% (Desonex) Cream).  These products can be purchased at your local pharmacy.

8. Avoid nail salons that do not clean their instruments properly.  Avoid use of community-shared nail polishes.  After treatment at NELO, a new bottle of nail polish for your personal use is encouraged.
